The General Election, originally scheduled for May 02, 2020, has been postponed to Tuesday, November 03, 2020, in accordance with the proclamation issued by Governor Abbott on March 18, 2020. Click here for Governor Abbott's proclamation
By postponing the election date, the City is preserving all candidate filings and ballot order actions that have already taken place. This postponement does not have the effect of reopening candidate filings.

Candidate Eligibility:
To be eligible for the position of mayor, a person must:
(1) Be a United States citizen;
(2) Have been a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, as of the deadline for filing for the office;
(3) Have resided in the city for at least 12 months preceding election day;
(4) Have a current voter registration certificate;
(5) Be 18 years of age or older upon the commencement of the term to be filled at the election;
(6) Not have been convicted of a felony for which he or she has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities and;
(7) Not have been deemed mentally incompetent by a final judgment of court.
To be eligible for the office of alderman, a person must;
(1) Be a United States Citizen;
(2) Have been a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, as of the deadline for filing for the office;
(3) Have resided in the city for at least 6 months preceding the deadline for filing for office;
(4) Have a current voter registration certificate;
(5) Be 18 years of age or older upon the commencement of the term to be filled at the election;
(6) Not have been convicted of a felony for which he or she has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities and;
(7) Not have been deemed mentally incompetent by a final judgment of court.
Voter Qualifications:
1) 18 years of age or older on the date of the election
2) United States Citizen
3) Resident of the City on the day of the election
4) Not a convicted felon ( you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation or parole) and;
5) Not have been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated
without the right to vote
